What I want to express with these songs is the story of a woman who has had to travel from country to country in search of the meaning of her life. I realized that it's impossible to find meaning in life without recognizing my own roots.
So, over the past two years, I've embarked on another journey: a journey into myself and my past. I often heard my grandmother's voice in my mind, standing behind the stove, singing:
At night, tea leaves
Lal sularda ay axir...
The night is quiet
The river flows
And the moon shines in the quiet river...
This voice was like a guidepost that brought me back to myself. From that moment on, I was able to feel the ground beneath my feet. Little by little, I felt roots taking hold in the new soil. And from that moment on, I realized that only when a tree's roots reach deep into the earth can that tree grow upwards.
I began collecting songs from my childhood, accompanied and supported by gifted musicians such as Benjamin Stein, Steffen Thormählen, Uwe Böttcher, Manfred Leuchter, and Mohamed Najem. We tried to rework them in such a way that the pure and innocent character of these songs would not be lost, but perhaps even allow them to blossom anew. That's my hope.
