The band "Schwieriges Kind" has taken time to mature during the pandemic. The band, whose debut album "Älter werden" (Growing Older) in June 2020 twice made it onto the best-of-songs list and was awarded the German Record Critics' Award (longlist), now presents the mini-album "Strandgut" (Strandgut), a profoundly calm musical and poetic reflection of an extraordinary time.
Listeners shouldn't expect simple answers to the complex questions of our time conveyed with musical lubrication. Instead, the mini-album "Strandgut" strings bittersweet accounts of life and love alongside snapshots of the artistic sensitivity of a globally exceptional situation. It makes no claim to a rounded worldview or musically and poetically unambiguous. The title "Strandgut" symbolizes, among other things, the self-defeated nature of cultural creators in a time of cultural abstinence in an unsettled society.
All compositions are the work of pianist Tom Victor, who skillfully navigates the field between jazz and pop. Ina Wohlgemuth's voice and lyrics are poetic, yearning, gentle, or demanding. The father-son duo of Volker Spitz on drums and Pelle Spitz on bass bring groove and excitement to even the quieter songs.
