Two men on the 10th anniversary stage. They tell stories from their times of "regional excess," sing about relationship problems and the "tour blues," and set Kurt Tucholsky's "Ideal and Reality" to music. They croon drinking songs in the style of The Pogues and sing about the symptoms of psychological civil service. From folk songs to folk, country music to punk – these two men know no genre boundaries. They rewrite a German folk song, serve up punk rock numbers that could have come from Die Ärzte, and in the next moment tenderly set a poem by Kurt Tucholsky to music. "Life is a beautiful game" can be found in all its variations on the anniversary album. The album's style, composition, instrumentation, and production appear equally diverse – playful, in other words. Once again, Quiring and Kasburg have locked themselves away for a long time together with the congenial producer Matthias Schrei and dressed their songs in arrangements that, in addition to guitar, electric guitar, bass and drums, also use accordion, mandolin, glockenspiel, melodica and entire wind sections.
"We have to be allowed to want things sometimes," says a song on their latest album. And every fan who takes the new album out of their CD player after weeks of rotation will nod in agreement: They're allowed to do anything!
