Svenson are back: On Lotterlurch, the Osnabrück band celebrates their accordion-driven rock 'n' roll more consistently than ever. This is a party-ready sound with glamour, passion, and humor. "The music you want to hear before you know it exists." (from the song "Sheila"). Raw rock guitars and endless melodies.
The songs are lovingly crafted and arranged, and they tell stories from a life of dissipation: of a cheerfully tipsy group that is broken up by the police ("Marijuana and Beer"), of the burden of excessive good looks ("You look good"), or, in a jazzy and laconic way, of life's missteps ("Shit on the Shoe"). Lotterlurch is all about partying and fast-paced music. The sound is raw and direct, the music driven by Lukas Schnadt's rolling drums. But Svenson can do other things too. Julia Kruse and Herr Svenson sing "Weißes Rauschen" (White Noise) as a duet: a song about longing that gets under your skin.
Anyone who's ever missed a song knows this feeling. It's the melancholic moment that rounds off a good rock album. "Sheila" has a genuine Irish flair: Matthias Wilhelm's accordion is particularly effective here. It's a song that fills glasses and dance floors as if by magic. Mr. Svenson also delivers first-class banjo runs: a weekend binge like the Pogues.
The album is divided into two parts: The first half focuses on Julia Kruse. She brings out the best in her dark voice. Whether she's lasciviously displaying her hot dog craving ("Hot Dog"), cheerfully greeting the whole world ("I greet everyone"), or cheering on "punk rock DJ Sex Machine": you'll want to listen to this voice all day long. The second half belongs to Mr. Svenson himself. With his filthy voice, the bandleader pays homage to Kylie Minogue ("Can't Get You out of my Head") and humorously explains to humanity what Tupperware can do ("Tupper Party").
In short: “Lotterlurch” not only puts you in a good mood from start to finish, but also makes you want to experience Svenson live, and as soon as possible.
