T.G. Copperfield with Ben Forrester - Out In The Desert (CD)
Men on horseback make their way across the dusty prairie. Water is scarce, dangers lurk everywhere. The nights are cold, and the campfire, visible for miles around, attracts snakes, coyotes, scorpions, and bandits. Images of a dark Western movie inevitably appear before the mind's eye when listening to TG Copperfield's songs. With catchy, profound roots rock/Americana, which works both with a full band and accompanied by just an acoustic guitar, the southern German musician has now firmly established himself in the scene and, since his career with the southern rock band 3 Dayz Whizkey in 2017, has released an impressive nine solo albums, all of which have been enthusiastically received by the press and his ever-growing fan base.
His latest, tenth album, "Out In The Desert," which will be released on May 19.05.2023, XNUMX, via Timezone Records, represents a milestone for TG Copperfield in many ways. For the first time in his solo career, he let go of the reins in the studio, giving his fellow musicians almost complete freedom and only setting very loose musical guidelines. "Out In The Desert" was produced by Robert Hubi Hoffmann at Slash Zero Studios in Abensberg. The majority of the guitar recordings were made at FBK Studios in Nuremberg. In New York guitarist Ben Forrester (Allen-Forrester Band, Jonah Smith, touring guitarist for Jade McRae and Paulie Cerra, among others), TG Copperfield also brought on board a musical partner for the first time, with whom he worked on the song material for his new album and who also plays the electric guitar live.
The result is a wonderful, atmospheric Americana album with dark lyrics inspired by today's social and political issues and the emotions associated with them, such as the Ukraine war, climate change, the pandemic, the fear of losing prosperity and the feeling of insecurity, the nameless threat in one's own self-created bubble.
Like a filmmaker, TG Copperfield uses his music to convey people's current worries and needs against the backdrop of a desert landscape, where vultures circle impatiently over the mounted travelers seeking their way across the steppe.
"Out In The Desert" offers neither solutions to problems nor admonitions. On this very personal album, TG Copperfield expresses his emotions through musical paintings whose soundtrack is the water the thirsty wanderer quenches. While the interpretation of the songs is left to the listener, the ultimate message is quite simple: Anything is possible, you just have to keep going.
The passion that TG Copperfield, Ben Forrester, Michael Air Hofmann (drums), Robert Hubi Hofmann (bass), and Claus Bächer on keys put into "Out In The Desert" can be heard in each of the 11 tracks. The album not only provides the ideal accompaniment to a ride through life's prairie, but also makes you want to experience TG Copperfield and his bandmates live on their upcoming tour.
