The music on Real to Reel is raw, down-to-earth blues – slowly simmering tracks, deep grooves, and extended, unhurried performances. The influences range from Lightnin' Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, RL Burnside, Jimmy Reed to John Lee HookerHowever, the focus is not on reviving old styles. This is blues as a living language: earthy, hypnotic, sometimes rough at the edges, but always human.
With only six tracks totaling just under forty minutes, the album gives the music room to breathe. The tempos settle, the grooves interlock, and small details – tape hiss, spatial sound, the interaction between the musicians – become part of the experience.
