Kellercountry icon and singer-songwriter Dad Horse Ottn took advantage of the coronavirus-related performance lull of the past two years to assemble an entire ensemble of top-class musicians. With this aircraft-carrying lineup, he recorded the most valuable pieces from his back catalog for the album AT THE LIMBO under live conditions at Studio Hire in northern Germany.
Joining him in this bold leap from Dad Horse solo performance to "Keller Ensemble" are Olaf "Sweetheart" Liebert (bass guitar), Michael "The Duke" Jungblut (electric guitar), Ayumi Valentina "Crown Jewel" Tovazzi (violin), Matze "Solo Instrumentalist of the Year 2017" Schinkopf (on a bewildering array of wind instruments), and Hanno "Handsome" Janssen (drums). Together, they give Dad Horse the freedom to embody the guts, heart, and throat of the new ensemble with vocals, banjo, and mandolin.
LIMBO represents the in-between zone: the zone between salvation and damnation, between lockdown and group ecstasy, but also the zone between his old life as a solo musician and Dad Horse Ottn's new manifestation as bandleader of a big band that will release new songs on vinyl starting in summer 2022. As an interim report, AT THE LIMBO documents both the live qualities of the new band and (once again) the astonishing songwriting skills of Dad Horse Ottn, whose reinterpretations of his all-time favorites already pique anticipation for the next level he's taking with his new band.
