With his first album, "Grounded," and his recent singles, the singer/songwriter from the Lower Rhine region has made a name for himself in the indie folk scene. His songs have been featured on numerous relevant playlists, such as "Alex Rainbird Music," "Indie Folk Central," "Wave Of Good Noise," and "Mr. Foxx Frequency." Specialist magazines such as "Akustikgitarre" and "Der Folker" have written positive reviews.
Since then, the singer has toured extensively – until the pandemic struck and forced him to take a break. In a way, he desperately needed it. His existence between music, a full-time job, and family often felt like a double life, draining him. It took a while for new songs to emerge. Then, however, they came: songs about wanderlust and security, journeys into the unknown and the dark spaces of the self. The new album, with ten songs, is somewhat darker than the previous album, but also full of confidence.
After gaining experience in various recording studios, he set up a home studio this time and produced the music entirely himself. He wanted to take all the time in the world. Timo Brandt plays the acoustic guitar in his own unique, very distinctive style. The riff to "Secret Room," for example, is a catchy tune in itself. He has skillfully arranged other acoustic instruments, such as the Spanish guitar, grand piano, and percussion. The sound spectrum is expanded by old-fashioned analog synthesizers, electric pianos, and expansive electric guitar sounds.
His voice is highly recognizable, which is further enhanced by the carefully chosen choral elements. Timo Brandt once again manages to find catchy melodies that stick in your head without sounding familiar or trite.
Several guest musicians also return on the new album: Charlotte Jeschkte played cello on "Travel in Time" and "Run Down This River." Wandering Souls provided the backing vocals on "Travel in Time."
Artist Doortje Maillard was once again enlisted to create the artwork. After intensive discussions about the album, she captured the perfect mood with a spontaneously hand-drawn motif.
