In search of beautiful and interesting contemporary Christmas works for solo recorder, Ute Schleich spoke with composers and asked them to write free works related to Christmas or Advent. Variations on Advent or Christmas carols were also possible.
The following composers are involved in this project:
Christine K. Brückner, Diana Cemeryte, Violeta Dinescu, Ulli Götte, Barbara Heller, Olga Magidenko, Katerina Pinosova-Ruzickova, Karel van Steenhoven, Tina Ternes and Anja Weinberger,
The result is a collection of beautiful, highly interesting, and highly diverse works, available both on CD and as sheet music. Recorder player Ute Schleich recorded the brand-new works with sound engineer Michael Jaeckel and is also the editor of the sheet music edition published by Pan Verlag (Pan 473).
The compositional styles range from traditional variations to film music, from free associations to old Advent or Christmas melodies from the 15th/16th centuries to experimental fragments. The instrumentation accommodates numerous recorder types – from sopranino to bass recorder.
The result is an entertaining, highly interesting and literally unique Christmas CD that is well worth listening to.
