The musician Volker Schäfer, who lives in Ettlingen near Karlsruhe, is one of the most versatile acoustic guitarists – whether as a soloist, as primus inter pares in a band context or as a sensitive musical accompaniment to cabaret artists, writers, and actors. Schäfer's CD releases span a wide range, from "pure" guitar music—inspired by Brazilian folk music and North American jazz—to small pop gems, to which he lends a refreshing, lively, and at times meditative spirit with his playing.
His love for the Beatles runs like a thread through his musical work. Volker Schäfer has long incorporated this passion into his own music. At some point, he began to give the "Fab Four" songs a personal touch with his own interpretations. In doing so, he takes the liberty of intuitively sensing what a melody needs and how much improvisation it can tolerate – in order to create something unique, something "Schäfer-like," that nevertheless remains true to the spirit of the original.
The next step was only logical: to record in the legendary Abbey Road Studios. The result: While My Guitar Gently Weeps – The Abbey Road SessionThe CD features 17 tracks, including twelve sensitive and original interpretations of Beatles songs.
